蘇木素又稱蘇木精，是細(xì)胞核和染色質(zhì)的染色劑。也是酸堿指示劑，pH5.0(黃)～pH6.0(紫)，0.0(粉紅)～1.0(綠)。定性檢定銅(II)、鐵(III)、鉬酸鹽、鉍(III)和錫(IV)等。光度測定釩、鋁、錫(IV)、氟、鈮、鉭 。
溶解性： 易溶于酒精，微溶于水和甘油，易溶于熱水和熱乙醇，溶于堿、氨和硼砂的溶液。
